Picomark was a startup I co-founded with my friends to tackle the challenges designers face when sharing work and communicating with clients.
We built a visual collaboration tool that allowed users to upload various file formats, invite collaborators, leave comments, and chat in real time.
To stand out from competitors, we focused on broader file support (including PDFs), integrated live chat, and enabled live comment threads.
As the founding designer, I led branding, rapid prototyping, UI/UX design, and art direction. I partnered up with two childhood friends, both software engineers, who led the engineering side of the app.
Part 1 - Branding
Logo Development
Picomark’s icon was inspired by a feather, historically used as a writing tool. The design includes a visual pun: the feather subtly forms the letter “P” for Pico, and when rotated 90 degrees clockwise, it also resembles an “m” for mark.
Part 2a - Product Development
Project Page
The Project page was where users could save and organize collaboration files. It allowed them to create folders, upload images, sort content, and invite collaborators. We went through countless iterations to refine this experience, prioritizing which features to keep and designing the most intuitive way to preview files alongside relevant details.
Part 2b - Product Development
Collaboration Page
The collaboration page served as a shared workspace where users could view designs and leave live feedback. Features like real-time comments, live chat, and on-image drawing were built and tested. After multiple iterations, the layout and placement of these tools were refined to create a seamless and intuitive experience, resulting in the final design shown below.
Part 3 - Webpage Development
Landing Page
The landing page was designed to introduce the product in the simplest, most approachable way. We chose the tagline “Let’s be on the same page” for its double meaning, perfectly capturing both the collaborative nature of the product and its purpose. The core features included “Upload”, “Invite & Share”, and “Collaborate in Real Time”, each clearly explained. For users who wanted more detail, a “Learn More” call-to-action led to deeper feature pages.
